You have probably seen graphics by Jane for corporate venues such as IBM without knowing it. Now a master’s degree in children’s literature combines with a love of nature to inform her current children’s book artwork. Using a bright palette, hand-created illustrations capture the small joys and happenings of a child’s day.
Jane’s rich watercolor and gouache illustrations reflect a childhood spent among the colors of New England; sparkling blue skies, golden summer seaside days, vivid orange autumns and grand gleaming white sledding hills. On Cape Cod and in Connecticut, rabbits, fireflies and tiny toads made for fascinating friends. With her sisters, she shared imaginary worlds in bushy hideouts and vast tide pools of tickly periwinkles and little crabs. The essence of these world now reside in the children’s illustrations Jane creates.
Today, outside the window of a tree house-like studio, bluebirds, chickadees and eastern tiger swallowtail butterflies often flutter by. Inside, scruffy Sailor the Wonder Dog, sleeps by her feet (often mischievously chewing upon a colored pencil). When not in her studio illustrating, Jane can be found teaching, reading and spending time with family in the ever-inspiring nature of New England!
